Sing-A-Long-A-Oliver

Oliver! This July at Norwich's Theatre Royal.

If you’d do anything (anything?) to perform some of the best songs from an iconic musical, then now is your chance. Being a HUGE fan of the musical, and loving all the songs (I used to have the soundtrack on tape – I know all the words!), I imagine it’ll be a brilliant afternoon.

The team behind Oliver! are organising a special community event to encourage community groups, keen singers and the public to join forces and sing some of the best-known melodies from the iconic musical, which heads to Norwich Theatre Royal this summer.

They are working with the venue’s education team on Sing-A-Long-A-Oliver on Tuesday July 17 from 2pm.

People can just come along, take part in a sing-song, and then enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake afterwards without a bowl of gruel in sight.

The show’s musical director Toby Higgins and some special guests from the show will lead the singing onstage in what promises to be a feelgood event.

Jason Raper, the theatre’s education manager, said: “This is a great chance for people from across the community to come along and take part in an event guaranteed to put a smile on their face.

“Oliver! has so many great songs like Food Glorious Food, You’ve Got To Pick A Pocket Or Two, I’d Do Anything and As Long As He Needs Me which are perfect for an event like this.

“Having some of the show team involved is also superb. Unlike Oliver, we could not ask for more.”

The event fits in with the production of Oliver!, which runs at Norwich Theatre Royal from July 3 to August 4.

It boasts a cast and crew of 108 (including Bullseye the dog) and is headed by the versatile stage and TV favourite Brian Conley, who takes on the role of Fagin.

Consider yourself invited.
