The Murderers Café Bar

The Murderers Café Bar &
The Gardeners Arms Free House.
2/8 Timber Hill, Norwich, NR1 3LB.

Incorporated into the fabulous Gardeners Arms Free House pub on Timberhill in Norwich, The Murderers Café Bar offers great home cooked food in a fabulously atmospheric setting.
Dating back to 1530, The Murderers has a rich (and, in some parts, dark) heritage; In 2010 The Murderers was classed by The Telegraph as one of the 100 most famous pubs in Britain. Still delightfully traditional in layout and atmosphere, there is no shortage of nooks and crannies, and the focus is very much on the provision of warm hospitality and excellent food and drink.
Breakfasts, filled baguettes, salads and jacket potatoes sit alongside ‘traditional’ pub-style food such as Curry, Chilli Con Carne, Fish & Chips, Bangers & Mash and Burgers, all prepared and presented with care. On Sunday’s there is a traditional Roast.
The menu includes a number of vegetarian options.

For beer lovers and real ale fans, The Gardeners Arms features 9 real ales and around 11-18 cask ales each week. It is a regular in the Good Beer Guide (one of only 16 Norwich pubs to feature in the Good Beer Guide 2012) and holds it’s own Beer Festival each autumn. For non-drinkers, there’s a selection of speciality coffees, tea and hot chocolate available.
Returning to that ‘dark past’, why is it widely known as ‘The Murderers’? As the blue plaque inside (one of few ‘inside’ plaques apparently) explains, in 1895 Frank Miles murdered his estranged wife, Mildred – the landlady’s daughter, in the very same doorway that still exists today.
