Found in the pretty village of Swanton Morley, which lies between Norwich and Dereham, Darby’s is a traditional family free house popular for offering a good selection of real ales and a well-priced, varied menu.
Darby’s occupies what was originally a large 18th Century country house, then a pair of cottages, before being converted into a Pub in 1988. Exposed beams, brick walls, an inglenook fireplace and Farmhouse style stripped pine tables create a warm, rustic character that is duplicated in the home-cooked food.
The menu is extensive, with something for everyone including plenty of seafood and British favourites such as Darby’s Pudding (a Herb and Suet Beef and Kidney Pudding) and Steak and Ale Pot. Vegetarians won’t be disappointed with a dedicated selection of meat-free dishes as well as choices from the starters and a salad section.
For lighter bites or lunch there are rolls and jacket potatoes.
A significant wine list is available alongside around 8 real ales (including two guest ales) and several types of cider.
Darby’s is very family-friendly, with a Children’s Menu (with two sized portions for children and toddlers) and a children’s adventure play area outside (known locally as ‘Darbyland’). Highchairs and booster seats are available.
Dogs are welcome in the bar area and garden when accompanied by well-behaved, friendly owners.
Darby’s also has a small function room (for up to 50 people) - ideals for parties and celebrations, Wi-Fi access and ample car parking.
