Gothic House Bed & Breakfast

What an amazing find in the heart of the City!

Norwich owes a lot to Norfolk-born Author and proprietor of AA 4-star (Gold Star Award) Gothic House Bed and Breakfast Clive Harvey, who basically saved this wonderful building and lovingly restored it from dereliction.

A Grade II listed building, legend has it that Gothic House B&B was built as a hideaway for the Mistress of a wealthy merchant in the early 1800’s (Clive says that the building must have taken up this ‘mistress-style’ character as it seems happier when decorated and lavished with pretty objects!).

Refurbished in a manner that honours the buildings’ architectural roots and retaining the wealth of original features, Gothic House has also been carefully styled to incorporate contemporary elegance, the overall look being one of antique romantic chic (think Regency era and Marie Antoinette).

Gothic House Bed & Breakfast has two beautiful rooms (a Double and a Twin), each with their own dedicated separate bathroom. Both rooms benefit from Clive’s unerring attention to detail, with included extras such as fruit and water, Molton Brown toiletries, slippers and bathrobes, and free Wi-Fi.

Looking towards the Cathedral, the Twin on the second floor boasts a view of the skyline of historical Norwich that is second to none, with most of the visible rooftops dating between the 15th and 17th Century (so almost unchanged from when the House was built).

Breakfast is served according to your needs as a guest, be it 5.30am or 11am (although Clive points out that he may be none too talkative if you choose to dine at 5.30am!).

With secure off-street parking and a situation that offers on-foot access to Norwich City Centre, as soon as you step onto the street, Gothic House is a perfect, romantic retreat for those of you looking for somewhere unique and very special to stay. It may not be a B&B on a mansion-sized scale, but steeped in history it is certainly worthy of its smug grandeur. Rates: £95 per room per night (double occupancy) – £65 single occupancy.
