Reopened in October 2010, The Parson Woodforde Freehouse & Restaurant was extensively refurbished under the new management of Chef-Manager David Smith and his very competent team.
The rustic building dates back to 1827, and has formerly existed under the name of The Five Ringers. The pub was renamed The Parson Woodforde in the late 1980s after Mr James Woodforde, a local legend and diarist with a huge interest in food and drink (think early food blogger!). The current team obviously shares the Parson’s passion for good food and good drink, imparting a healthy dash of Norfolk heritage into their modern menus and styling.
Very well-stocked, the pub serves a range of Norfolk and Suffolk cask ales and beers including Grain Brewery Best Bitter, Wolf Brewery bitter, Adnams Best Bitter and of course Woodforde’s Wherry. You’ll also find a range of continental beers, a wide selection of soft drinks and a great WINE LIST available both by the glass and the bottle. On the hot drinks front, The Parson Woodforde serves Attibassi coffee (drink in or takeaway) together with a range of teas and infusions.
For warm days, there’s a lovely, good-sized outside terrace and beer garden.
As well as a large restaurant, there’s a bar menu and from 8am until 11am you can treat yourself to Continental or English breakfast (eat in or takeaway). Fantastic.
A traditional roast dinner is available on Sundays from £10.95 per head for one course.
Lashings of stone and wood, balanced by fresh, contemporary touches, make this a lovely place to enjoy high quality food and drink just outside Norwich.
