The self-confessed ‘foodie’ team at The Reindeer Pub on Dereham Road in Norwich subscribes to a simple philosophy: The two things they are passionate about are food and beer.
Owners, brother and sister Dan and Kate say, “Our aim is deliver modern British Cooking without any of the frills or the pretense, alongside a large range of world beers (they currently have around 22 draught beers).
“We want to offer a level of food that is not common in Norwich pubs and make it as informal as possible”.
The Reindeer Chef is Michelin trained and all dishes seek to make use of all the wonderful, British produce at our fingertips. We work hard to source suppliers from all over the UK, including local foragers from North Norfolk to smallholdings in Dorset who cure their own meats.
Employing a very ‘now’ and ‘back-to-basics’ way of thinking, there is also a focus on using as much of the animal as possible in the dishes served. When devising the menu, the Chef and team look back through the history of British cooking to deliver forgotten recipes with the Reindeer’s own modern twist. Everything is made in house, from the bread to the ice cream and there are set to be several food related events throughout the year.
There are several options when dining at The Reindeer:
A Bar Snack menu with 12-15 dishes, that is designed to be washed down with a pint and resembles a British style tapas, including Black Pudding Sausage Roll or Devilled Lambs Kidneys;
The Dining Menu, that is made up of a concise and continually changing offering with previous examples including Faggots, Champ Potato & Swede or Kedgeree, Haddock & Quails egg;
Or the Feasting Tables for a ‘family style’ dining. You can order joints of your favourite meat or whole chickens to be carved at the table, all served with roast potatoes, veg and designed to be shared by groups of 4 – 25 people.
The Reindeer also team work hard to match their beers to their dishes. However, if beer isn’t your thing, there is a comprehensive selection of wine and premium spirits.
In summary, if good food and great beer are your thing, you couldn’t ask for more…
