Officially endorsed recently by Stephen Fry, The Book Hive in the Norwich Lanes is the City’s only independent bookshop.
That fact alone, however, is but one reason to visit this fabulous emporium of literature. Perhaps most important is that inside the beautifully restored building, filled with lovely furniture and art to buy, is a hand picked, unusual selection of books, considerably more interesting than chain stores and not driven by best-seller lists, but by interest value. Far removed from the musty independent bookshops of yesteryear, or the sense-assaulting chains, this is a smart bookshop for the 21st Century.
Attention to detail and customer-comfort has not been overlooked. One nice touch is the free Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, biscuits and places to sit and read. The view from the first floor through the large glass frontage onto London Street is ideal for a spot of people watching as you while away a few peaceful moments flanked by the stylish Book Hive décor.
A next-day ordering service, events, themed months, readings and signings really do make this one Hive that is sure to generate a buzz.
Sections include Children’s Books (in a Children’s room adorned with parrots, robots and jungle motifs), Art & Design, Cookery, Poetry, Fiction and Non-Fiction. More sections will be added as the shop expands.
