Art 18/21 Art Gallery, Augustine Steward House, Tombland, Norwich.

Housed in the undercroft of one of Norwich’s oldest and most significant buildings, the A1* listed Augustine Steward House in Tombland, Art 18/21 is a inspirational new space for both serious art collectors and more casual art lovers alike.

Opened in February 2008 by experienced Art Historian Laura Williams, Art 18/21 specialises in bringing high-end world art from the 18th to 21st centuries to Norwich. As a result, we are offered an unrivalled opportunity to see pieces from India and Asia that may otherwise not be accessed outside London.

Visitors interested in investing in a piece of art (an ever-wiser move as we see the contemporary art market continue to boom. Plus you reap the benefit of being able to display and enjoy your investment - much more appealing that a portfolio of shares) can be confident of receiving the best advice from the team at Art 18/21 through their in-house advisory service. Pieces in the gallery are included following extensive research that qualifies their suitability for investment.

Art 18/21 also offers a collection management and art insurance and valuation service.

While Art 18/21 may be located in what is to all intense and purposes a basement, the bright modern layout and astute use of lighting, along with the inherent architectural features that include arched recesses, decorative niches and exposed beams make the gallery a haven of serenity where it is easy to sit and contemplate a purchase, or simply appreciate the works on display.

Open Mon-Sat 10am-5pm (enter through antiques shop in Augustine Steward House). Please call for appointments outside these hours.

Admission to Art 18/21 is free.

Upcoming Exhibitions At Art 18/21.

6th-26th Sept. Divided Line.
Art 18/21 is delighted to present the gallery’s first curated exhibition entitled Divided Line. This eagerly anticipated show features the work of four emerging artists, Will Teather, Isabel Rock, Garry Hobbs and Lucy Orchard, who together present a visual extravaganza exploring themes of surreal narratives and visual paradoxes. Curated by the gallery owner, art historian and experienced art dealer Laura Williams, these four very different but very compatible artists offer a diverse but coherent display of artworks, engaging the viewer to consider the complexities and ambiguities of visual and intelligible realities.

The rationale of Divided Line seeks to challenge and provoke the way we see and understand reality, both our own and others. As such, the strange and unworldly are juxtaposed with the familiar and safe, yet there are clear correspondences and adjacencies in operation. Divided Line promises to be the first of many vibrant, stimulating and pioneering exhibitions curated by Art 18/21.
