The Maddermarket Theatre successfully combines a rich heritage with forward-looking modernity. Local theatre at it’s very best, the Maddermarket also boasts International acclaim.
Opened in 1921 as the first permanent recreation of an Elizabethan Theatre, the Grade II listed building has seen many changes, including reconstruction and renovation that have enabled it to retain and display several of it’s authentic features. This environment contributes to the warm and inviting ambience and perfectly compliments the diverse range of productions that are staged there all year round.
Seating a total of 310, the Gallery and Stalls offer the audience an intimate involvement with the stage that larger theatres would be unable to offer.
The theatre also has a light, airy café & bar area that is often decorated with art by local artists.
As well as the in-house and touring productions, the Maddermarket Theatre plays host to a youth theatre group (including holiday workshops), costume hire and adult drama classes.
The ticket office is open Mon-Sat 10am-9pm on performance days, otherwise Mon-Fri 10am-5pm and Sat 10am-1pm.
